The Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) recently launched a new program to provide a new alternative for auto glass technicians to renew their prestigious AGSC certifications. In the past, certified technicians could re-certify only by re-taking the extensive certification exam every three years. Now, auto glass technicians who have previously taken and passed the Auto Glass Technician or Master Auto Glass Technician tests will also be able to re-certify by accumulating 18 continuing education credits over a three-year period.
“The AGSC Education Committee wanted to offer an additional alternative for renewing their AGSC technician accreditation, as continuing education programs are common in a number of industries,” says Vincent Lamarco, director of certification for the AGSC. “Our accreditation expires three years after passing the exam we have in place to test knowledge of proper industry practices and safety standards.”
To become certified, technicians must complete an online exam through which they demonstrate their expertise in safe auto glass installation.
“This new recertification program will allow technicians a structured method for keeping up with industry knowledge after passing the exam, while also giving technicians the opportunity to renew their accreditations without having to retake the exam,” adds Lamarco.
So far, the feedback on the program has been positive. “Technicians are looking forward to an additional alternative for renewing their accreditation as it will allow them a way to keep up with the industry at their own pace over the three-year period that their accreditation is active,” says Lamarco.
