We often think of all automotive parts in the same way, but the windshield is very different than a fender or battery.

You see, your windshield does much more than just protect you from weather and insects. Your windshield also acts as a safety shield for the passengers inside the vehicle. Your windshield and side window glass are part of your vehicle’s passenger restraint system and must be installed properly in order for airbags to deploy safely and effectively. The windshield also aids in passenger retention, keeping passengers in the car in the case of an accident.

In order for an auto glass replacement to be completed properly, the adhesive used in that replacement must be able to cure and create a bond between the glass and the car. Your auto glass professional chooses adhesives to use based on a variety of factors and can only complete a proper installation when that bond is achieved. While the use of used glass (sometimes called salvage glass) may seem a possible alternative, its use has limitations. The lack of knowledge about the adhesives and primers previously used on that glass may not permit used glass to be installed properly.

Registered Member Companies of the AGSC have committed, in writing, to follow the Auto Glass Replacement Safety Standard, North America’s Standard for proper auto glass installation. It has also agreed to random onsite validation audits by the Council. Please do not ask the employees of this company to use glass that, in the employee’s judgment, would not allow a proper installation to take place in accordance with the AGRSS Standard.
