In 2019, the NWRA and AGSC came together and agreed to synchronize their standards development process under the procedures of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), a rigorous and transparent consensus-building process resulting in an industry voluntary standard once it obtains ANSI approval.
They also agreed that it was time to take a new look at the windshield repair standard – Repair of Laminated Auto Glass Standard (ROLAGS for short), to be known as ROLAGS 2 once it is developed under the auspices of AGSC. Though it has been updated over the years, the Standard does not provide guidance on repairs in relation to today’s new technology such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
The ROLAGS 2 Standard will address industry best practices for when and under what conditions a repair can take place as well as explain when repairs should not take place.
It will be a continuously maintained document with consistent procedures uniting the auto glass repair industry. It will also serve as a reference for customers, insurers and others seeking to understand when a proper repair can be made.
The AGSC ROLAGS 2 Standards Committee will develop the Standard. This committee is open to all interested parties. Individuals, both those who were part of the original ROLAGS Standards Committee and those who were not, are invited to be part of the ROLAGS 2 Standards Committee. Those interested should contact Kathy Bimber at kbimber@agsc.org.
The next meeting of the AGSC ROLAGS 2 Standards Committee will take place during the second week of June 2021 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. in conjunction with Auto Glass Week™ 2021. The exact date and time of the meeting will be announced shortly.
