A bill is under review in the New York legislature that looks to “to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to the level of acceptable light transmittance of automobile window tint and film.”
The bill, A 8484, aims change the level of acceptable light transmittance from less than 70 percent to less than 50 percent.
Specifically, the bill would add the following text to the state’s law:
Such measurements made by the commissioner, or his designee, shall be given a tolerance of plus or minus seven percent.
The bill was introduced in the New York Assembly on August 7 and referred to the Committee on Transportation.
