Hawaii Legislature Considers Bill Related to Insurers and OEM Parts

Both the Hawaii House of Representatives and Senate currently are reviewing a bill related to insurers and how OEM parts are handled for repairs.

The bill, labeled HB 1620 in the House and SB 2243 in the Senate, aims to “prohibit motor vehicle insurers from charging insureds an additional fee for repairs made with original equipment manufacturer parts if the vehicle manufacturer recommends original equipment manufacturer parts.”

The bill was introduced to the House on January 17 and in the Senate on January 19.
