WV Bill Seeks to Repeal Outdated Laws about Vehicle Safety Glass

February 23, 2018

A bill is under review in the West Virginia legislature that is designed to “repeal antiquated code sections regarding safety glass and lighting in motor vehicles.”

“The purpose of this bill is to remove antiquated code sections that have no useful purpose. These two code sections require the state to approve the safety glass and lighting used in vehicles. The federal government sets the standards for motor vehicle equipment, not the Division of Highways,” reads the text of the bill.

The bill, SB 444, originally was introduced to the West Virginia Senate on January 31 by Sen. Charles Trump. The Senate voted to pass the bill on February 19 and it now is under the review of the House Roads and Transportation Committee.
