2016 AGSC Validation Survey Results
"The Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) surveyed validated locations in 2016, and provided Orion with the results. Orion is pleased to report the results of the survey that are applicable to our roles within the validation processOf special note is the fact that 100 percent of those who responded either strongly agreed or agreed with the statement 'The audit is something my shop and technicians would gladly undergo again.' The Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) will hold a training accreditation program in West Palm Beach, Fla., in October. The course will be held on Friday, October 6, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. The exam will follow at 2 p.m. that day.

Mark Your Calendar for Member Meeting
The Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) will hold its 2017 annual member meeting on Tuesday, October 3, in West Palm Beach, Fla., from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The meeting will be held the day before Auto Glass Week™ 2017, October 4-6, kicks off. Auto Glass Week will be held at the Palm Beach County Convention Center and Hilton West Palm Beach.

AGSC to Hold Insurers’ CEU Forum in Florida; Three CEUs Available
The Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) will offer an Insurers’ Continuing Education Unit (CEU) Forum on Tuesday afternoon, October 3, just before Auto Glass Week™ gets underway in West Palm Beach, Fla. This will be the second year the AGSC has held a CEU course for insurers.

ADAS Can Lead to Higher Auto Insurance Prices
New cars with crash prevention technology and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are causing auto insurance rates to rise dramatically, according to a Wall Street Journal article published April 3. The article explains that safety features such as autonomous braking, microprocessors and cameras are often located on parts of the car most prone to accidents, such as the bumper. And when these features need replacing, the cost can be five times what it would be without these features.

Volkswagen Recalls More than 17,000 Vehicles
Volkswagen Group of America has issued a recall for certain 2015-2017 Audi A7 vehicles due to improper deployment of head curtain airbags, which could put a passenger in greater risk of an injury in the event of a crash. The company issued the recall on May 1, and an estimated 17,694 vehicles may be affected.

NHTSA Investigates GM for 2015 Headlamp Module Recall
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has been investigating General Motors (GM) due to a 2015 headlamp driver module recall that was meant to fix faulty low-beam headlights. NHTSA is looking into whether or not the 2015 recall fixed the affected vehicles and if enough vehicles were included after receiving numerous consumer complaints.

Nissan Asks That Defective Sunroof Lawsuit be Dismissed
In February, Nissan was hit with a lawsuit claiming that certain 2008-present Nissan and Infiniti models have faulty panoramic glass sunroofs, which can cause them to explode spontaneously.

Chrysler Lawsuit Regarding Leaking Sunroofs Seeks Class Action Status
The lawsuit against Chrysler for leaking sunroofs is still trying to reach class-action status. The lawsuit, which was first filed in 2014, alleges the manufacturer was negligent in disclosing to owners that regular maintenance is needed on affected vehicles’ sunroof drain tubes.

Hyundai Squabbles over Schedule in Sunroof Lawsuit
The U.S. District Court of California has set a May 1, 2017, deadline for expert reports or declarations in support of class certification to be delivered to the court in a lawsuit over spontaneously shattering Hyundai sunroofs.
