"Since it became a requirement for Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) Registered Member Companies to have all their technicians become AGSC Certified Technicians, the process for determining which technicians will be audited has changed. Previously, all auto glass replacement technicians assigned to a location were required to be audited when that location was audited. Now, that number has decreased in most cases. The auto glass replacement technicians to be audited are now selected using the following process." -Penny Ouellette

Welcome These Master Auto Glass Technicians
Several auto glass technicians passed the Auto Glass Safety Council™’s (AGSC) Master Auto Glass Technician certification exam during the month of January. The exam is an online test consisting of 70 multiple choice questions. Those who apply to become Master Auto Glass Technicians must have experience and knowledge in: OSHA-required employee safety regulations; conducting all installations according to the current ANSI/AGSC/AGRSS™ Standard.

A bill is under review in the Connecticut legislature that aims “to prohibit employers from inquiring about the criminal history of an automotive glass employee or prospective automotive glass employee.”

The Florida Senate currently is reviewing a bill that aims to “prohibit motor vehicle repair shops or their employees from offering anything of value to a customer in exchange for making an insurance claim for motor vehicle glass replacement or repair, including offers made through certain persons, etc.”

Hawaii House Reviews Service Contract Bill
A bill is under review in the Hawaii legislature that “specifies that the regulation of motor vehicle service contracts does not apply to agreements issued by automobile clubs; [and] clarifies the allowable scope of motor vehicle service contracts regulated by the Insurance Commissioner to include contracts for certain motor vehicle repair and replacement services.”

The Oklahoma Senate currently is reviewing a bill that aims to “remov[e] [the] exemption from [the] Vehicle Protection Product Act for service contract providers who sell vehicle protection products; [and] remov[e] [the] exemption from [the] Service Warranty Act for certain sales.”

Texas Bill Relates to Insurers, Repair Facilities
The Texas House currently is reviewing a bill that “relat[es] to certain insurance practices with respect to repair of motor vehicles.” Among its provisions, it notes that in this law, “‘repair person or facility’ does not include a person who exclusively provides automobile glass replacement, glass repair services, or glass products.”

A bill is under review in the Utah legislature that aims to “revise the allowable window tint on motor vehicle windows.”

Window Film Bill Introduced in Washington
A Washington senator recently introduced a bill that “relat[es] to the installation of safety glazing or film sunscreening materials.” The bill aims to create a $500 fine for “a mechanic or commercial installer of safety glazing or film sunscreening material who installs, for monetary or commercial gain, safety glazing or film sunscreening material in violation of [the state’s window film law].” It also makes violating this law a misdemeanor.

A voluntary recall has been issued for certain aftermarket replacement windshields sold for use in 2014-2018 Toyota Highlander vehicles. The voluntary recall was issued by Fujian Wanda Automobile Glass Industry.

Consumer Reports Stops Recommending Tesla 3, Notes Complaints about ‘Glass Defects’
Consumer Reports (CR) published an article on its website yesterday saying it “can no longer recommend the newest Tesla—the Model 3electric sedan—because members say they’ve identified a number of problems with their cars, including issues with its body hardware, as well as paint and trim.”
