AGSC Committees Meet in San Diego
The board of directors and committees of the Auto Glass Safety Council (AGSC) recently held their spring meetings in San Diego. AGSC’s Education Committee continued with its update of the AGSC Certification program and related examination. The committee has increased the pool of general exam questions to more than 500.

Certification News

Welcome These Master Auto Glass Technicians
A number of auto glass technicians passed the Auto Glass Safety Council™’s (AGSC) Master Auto Glass Technician certification exam during the month of January. The exam is an online test consisting of 70 multiple choice questions. Those who apply to become Master Auto Glass Technicians must have experience and knowledge in: OSHA-required employee safety regulations; conducting all installations according to the current ANSI/AGSC/AGRSS™ Standard.

Complimentary Regional Certification and Training Programs Planned Throughout the Year
The Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) will hold a number of regional certification training courses throughout the year across the United States. Each session will include a three-hour training course, along with time to take the certification exam. The courses will be led by Bob Beranek, chair of the AGSC AGRSS™ Standards Committee.

AGSC Sets Date for Member Meeting
The date has been set for the Auto Glass Safety Council™’s (AGSC) annual member meeting. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, in San Antonio, Texas, just before Auto Glass Week™ gets underway. The AGSC also plans to hold an Insurers’ CEU Forum during the event as well, along with a certification training course.

Arizona Bill Addresses Auto Glass Pricing, Inspections and Steering
A bill has been filed in the Arizona Senate that aims to add language about auto glass pricing, windshield inspections and steering to Section 1, Section 20-461, of the Arizona Revised Statutes.

Florida Senate Committee Passes Windshield Inspection Bill
A bill proposes to add language related to windshield inspections to Section 1, Section 627.7288, of the Florida Statutes recently was passed by the Senate’s Commerce and Tourism Committee.

Arizona Senator Introduces Bill Related to Auto Glass
A bill is under review in the Arizona legislature that “relates to unfair insurance claim settlement practices [and] claims for auto glass repair, [and] defines unlawful practices for a person who sells or repairs auto glass.”

WV Bill Seeks to Repeal Outdated Laws about Vehicle Safety Glass
A bill is under review in the West Virginia legislature that is designed to “repeal antiquated code sections regarding safety glass and lighting in motor vehicles.”

Indiana Legislature Reviews Insurance Bill
An Indiana Senator recently introduced a bill that aims to “prohibit certain activities by an adjuster, insurer, insurance producer, or other representative of an insurer in connection with a motor vehicle repair; [and] makes certain activities by a repair shop in connection with a motor vehicle repair for which insurance coverage is available deceptive acts.”

Oklahoma Bill Could Change Insurer Requirements in State
The Oklahoma House of Representatives currently is considering a bill that “relates to motor vehicle total loss or damage claims; requiring the insurer to provide market survey information to any requesting parties; and providing an effective date.”

Oklahoma Senate Reviews Bill Related to Service Warranties
The Oklahoma Senate currently is a considering a bill that relates to “service warranties; amending [the sections of the law] which relate to definitions, audited financial statements, duration of suspension, annual statement filing and examinations of service warranty associations; modifying definitions; requiring certain financial statements to be audited and submitted to Insurance Commissioner under certain circumstances; updating statutory references; and providing an effective date.”

Both the Hawaii House of Representatives and Senate currently are reviewing a bill related to insurers and how OEM parts are handled for repairs.

The Massachusetts House of Representatives currently is reviewing a bill that would “require the installation of sideguards and blind spot mirrors on certain vehicles to protect pedestrians and cyclists.”

Idaho Bill Seeks to Amend Service Reimbursement Policy Requirements
The Idaho House of Representatives currently is reviewing a bill that seeks to update the Idaho Motor Vehicle Service Contract Act, which was enacted into law in 1993. According to a summary of the bill, “the proposed legislation moves the authority to enforce the Act from the Attorney General to the Department of Insurance.”

New York Senate Reviews Bill Related to Leased Vehicles
The New York Senate currently is reviewing a bill that “relates to expanding the availability of meaningful service contracts to protect New Yorkers leasing automobiles for their personal use from unanticipated ‘lease-end’ charges related to excess use or wear and tear of the leased vehicle.”

RECALL: Mitsubishi Recalls Nearly 57,000 Vehicles for Sunroof Detachment Defect
There’s been a lot of attention on faulty sunroofs lately, and Mitsubishi Motors North America is one of the latest automakers caught in the mix. The company has issued a recall for certain 2007-2010 Outlander, 2008-2010 Lancer, 2009-2010 Lancer Evolution, and 2010 Lancer Sportbacks equipped with sunroofs due to faulty bonding materials. The recall was issued on January 26 and affects an estimated 56,641 vehicles.

Ford on Monday warned an additional 33,000 owners of older pickup trucks in North America to stop driving them until potentially defective Takata Corp airbag inflators can be repaired.

RECALL: Ford Recalls Certain Vehicles for Power Window Defect
Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for certain 2018 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles. The recall is for defective second row power windows that may not automatically reverse if obstructed by an object, increasing the risk of injury. The company issued the recall on January 16, and approximately 361 vehicles may be affected.

GM Says It Will Review Safety of Panoramic Sunroofs
General Motors says it has voluntarily begun an internal review of panoramic sunroofs in its vehicles following a Consumer Reports investigation that detailed how hundreds of sunroofs nationwide and across the auto industry have shattered without warning.
