New York Enacts Service Contract Law for Leased Vehicles

January 3, 2020

On December 23 New York Gov. Cuomo signed legislation, effective immediately, that allows consumers leasing cars for personal use to enter into to service contracts for “wear and tear” items such as auto glass cracks and chips – but not auto glass replacement – in order to prevent the imposition of surprise lease end costs by the lessor.  The bill amends the definition of Service Contract in New York insurance law.

More information and text of the bill, S3631/A268 can be found here: https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2019/s3631
