New Mexico Bill Addresses Service Contract Renewals

A bill is under review in the New Mexico legislature that aims to “declar[e] as an unlawful practice the automatic renewal of consumer contracts or continuation of delivery of products or services without prior consumer consent; requir[e] certain disclosures in offers to renew contracts for and continue delivery of products or services to consumers; [and] requir[e] that consumers be provided with an option to terminate those contracts or continuing deliveries.”

The bill, H 522, was introduced on February 8 and referred to the House Judiciary Committee. The committee recommended that a substituted version of the bill be passed on February 22.
