Michigan Bill Prohibits Police Stop Based on Windshield

October 26, 2021

Legislation introduced in the Michigan House in late September would prohibit a police officer from stopping and inspecting a motor vehicle, or issuing a driver citation, solely on the basis of a chipped or cracked windshield.

Also, an individual would no longer be in violation of the requirement to operate a vehicle with the proper windshield solely on the basis of a chip or a crack.

The bill, H 5356, has been assigned to the House Judiciary Committee for consideration.
