A Louisiana bill regulating auto glass repair and replacement business and insurance practices is poised to move to the next step of the legislative process, but there’s still time to contact State Representatives.
HB929, also known as the Louisiana Motor Vehicle Glass Law, appears to follow model legislation issued by the National Council of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL). According to the bill’s page on the Louisiana legislature’s website, it was “read by title, ordered engrossed and passed to 3rd [House] reading” on March 26.
If the House votes in favor of the bill, it will be passed to the Senate. As of press time, the House agenda lists the bill as “not yet scheduled for floor debate.”
Like other NCOIL-based bills, HB929 requires auto glass repair and replacement companies to obtain a claim number from an insured customer before officially entering into a contract for the job. It also regulates how and when auto glass shops must notify customers of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) recalibration.
