For 2025 Auto Glass Technician Competition (AGTO) winner Raul Plascencia and Windshield Repair Competition (WRO) winner Bradley Aydelott, the industry’s Standards aren’t just parts of the competition checklists. They are the crux of technicians’ and competitors’ success.
AGTO competitors earn points by explaining their process to proctors. This often includes details from the AGRSS Standard.Plascencia is an AGSC Master Certified Technician at Direct Quality Auto Glass in San Bernardino, California. He roots all his work, including competitions, in the Automotive Glass Replacement Safety Standard™ (AGRSS). Plascencia values the standard and AGSC so much that he decided to donate his entire gold medalist prize purse ($10,000) to the Council.
“AGSC does a lot for the industry, and I want the money to go toward making a bigger change for technicians,” he says.
Bradley Aydelott of Glass Monkey Chip Repair in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, is a National Windshield Repair Division (NWRD) Certified Repair Technician and an AGSC Certified Replacement Technician.
“Nobody wants to start a serious journey without guidance,” Bradley Aydelott says. That includes the ROLAGS Standard.He turns to the Repair of Laminated Automotive Glass Standard (ROLAGS™) as one of his most important guides while preparing for the WRO. Aydelott says he referenced the standard while practicing every day and studied it to ensure he could explain his work to the competition proctor.
“The more you study the standard, the more you find yourself being able to explain your process efficiently,” he says.
Back at his shop, Aydelott says adhering to ROLAGS is a no-brainer business decision.
“It was put in place to outline safety best practices for shops,” he says. “Insurance companies like to see you follow it, so it helps your bottom line.”
