Paul Heinauer
The Auto Glass Safety Council™ (AGSC) recently honored Paul Heinauer, president of Glasspro Inc. in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., with the Carl F. Tompkins Award for Excellence in Auto Glass Safety. Heinauer was honored for his long-time commitment to safety in the auto glass industry and his work with the AGSC. The award was presented at a ceremony in West Palm Beach, Fla., where Auto Glass Week™ 2017 was held earlier this month.
Heinauer got his start in the industry in 1979 with PPG’s management training program. His first assignment was in Charlotte, N.C., where he sold truckloads of flat glass in the Carolinas and Virginia. He was named branch manager of PPG’s Greenville office in 1985. The following year, Heinauer relocated to Charleston where he founded Coastal Glass Distributors to manufacture and market flat, insulating and auto glass in several states. In 1995, he moved from the wholesale side of the glass business and sold Coastal Glass Distributors to start his own retail auto glass company, Glasspro.
Glasspro has been an AGSC Registered Member Company for many years and Heinauer has been a constant advocate for safety.
“Paul has been a staunch advocate for the work of the AGSC for many years,” said AGSC president Debra Levy. “We appreciate his commitment to the industry and to safety.”
The award, which is the auto glass industry’s highest honor, was presented to Heinauer by Tompkins himself at Auto Glass Week.
