The Auto Glass Safety Council (AGSC) has formed three new committees as part of its dedication to serving and educating the auto glass industry: the Insurance Committee, the Manufacturers Committee and the Hispanic Outreach Committee.
“The AGSC Insurance Committee is dedicated to advancing the safety of our mutual customer,” said AGSC president Jacques Navant. “It’s dedicated to education, understanding and action between both industries for the good of the policyholder. It will be good for both the auto glass industry and insurers.”
A need for enhanced communication from glass, tools and adhesives manufacturers is another common industry desire. Representatives from all these sectors will sit on the Manufacturers’ Committee to help manufacturers adhere to the Automotive Glass Replacement Safety Standard™ (AGRSS) and understand industry concerns.
“Nothing is more important to auto glass technicians than the products they work with,” Navant says. “Which is why this committee is needed.”
Jason Yoon, vice president and general manager at AGSC associate member Carlex, will chair the committee.
The third new AGSC committee was inspired by AGSC qualified replacement technician and 2024 Auto Glass Technician Competition champion Jorge Sandoval. Sandoval proposed providing more services to Hispanic AGSC members. The Hispanic Outreach Committee is designed to do just that.
Gilbert Gutierrez, global education director for AGSC associate member Equalizer, is the committee’s first interim chair. Gutierrez has been in the auto glass industry for over 30 years and has advocated for fellow Hispanic auto glass professionals throughout that time. He says he’s excited to help start the Hispanic Outreach Committee.
“There are a lot of Hispanic people in the industry that don’t look for or take advantage of everything the industry offers because of a language barrier,” he says.
The new committee will help bring about change.
All three committees will meet for the first time during the AGSC spring meetings in Oahu, Hawaii, on February 3-4.
